About

The Gower Ambassadors project commenced in 2017 and resulted in around 60 trained ambassadors of Gower who are passionate and knowledgeable about the area, here to help at, and enhance Gower events, available to meet and greet visitors to Gower and share knowledge / stories / hidden gems / recommendations.

It’s all about enhancing the visitor experience

In July 2018 tourism trade association ‘Tourism Swansea Bay’ has taken the lead on the project and it has been funded by the Welsh Government Sustainable Development Fund and support from the Gower Landscape Partnership. Tourism Swansea Bay aim to raise awareness of the ambassadors as well as putting their skills to good use. We have already had ambassadors greeting coaches of German cruise ship visitors to Rhossili, and engaging with visitors at events such as Gower Walking Festival, Gower Cycling Festival, Gower Show. They have also helped with looking after Gower by taking part in National Trust Beach Cleans and other conservation activity.

Many ambassadors are employed in visitor / customer facing roles putting their ambassador training to use as part of they day to day job.

Event organisers and local tourism operators now have access to professionally trained ambassadors to enhance the visitor experience and support events. Through ambassadors, visitors will have access to information about the heritage and landscape of Gower during visits, particularly information, stories, advice, and recommendations that might otherwise be difficult to find.

Tourism Swansea Bay has piloted a ‘Pop Up Tourist Information Centre’ concept utilising leaflets, display materials, and ambassadors. Ideal for small or large events, or hotels / universities / visitor attractions that may be hosting groups / conferences.
