Wales training structure – Summary

Green Badge courses run when there is a demand and cover the first 9 modules of the Wales Training Framework. These are based on specified regions in Wales and are courses aimed at people new to guiding or Green Badge guides from other parts of the UK who want to gain a Welsh qualification.

A further 6 modules of the Training Framework then lead to a Blue Badge for Wales and will be open to those who have a Wales Green Badge qualification or a Blue Badge qualification from elsewhere in the UK.

This full complement of Wales training modules is approved by the Federation

European Tourist Guides as meeting European Standard EN15565:2008

There are differences to the training structure to the rest of the UK. The main differences are

• a strong emphasis on practical on-site training and assessment.
• Most background knowledge requires self-study from a recommended reading, listening and watch list and access to a library of webinars especially prepared for Wales courses.

The South West Wales Green Badge Area comprises Ceredigion, Carmarthenshire, Neath Port Talbot, Pembrokeshire, Swansea.

Course Providers

The course is being run by Wales Best Guides Enterprises Limited, a social enterprise being the commercial arm of Wales Official Tourist Guides Association (WOTGA). WOTGA is the membership organisation for professionally qualified tourist guides in Wales recognised by Visit Wales and Welsh Government, as the professional standards’ body for tourist guiding in Wales. WOTGA has achieved validation to run training courses and make such awards with the support of FEG, the European Federation of Tourist Guide Associations.
